Meta Decides to Reinstate Trump’s Instagram and Facebook Accounts

Meta, the parent company of the social media platform, said it will reinstate the Instagram and Facebook accounts of Donald Trump, the former president of the US, soon. It is against the backdrop of Trump’s decision to run for president in 2024. 

Since January 2021, the social media account of Trump has been suspended after finding posts related to stoking violence in the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. Trump’s account has been suspended indefinitely by Meta. According to Breaking News Today, Meta will put in safeguards to prevent the repetition of offenses by Trump.

In a blog post, the president (Global Affairs) at Meta said Trump is facing several penalties for his repeated offenses. The company will remove the content and suspend the account for one month or two years, based on the severity of the violations. 

Meta referred the matter to its Oversight Board after suspending Trump’s account in January 2021. The Oversight Board defended the decision but said it should have been made public. Trump’s account will be suspended for two years while the company investigates whether he poses a risk to public safety.

Trump reacts to the suspension of his account

Reacting to the suspension of his account, Trump said it was an insult to him and his supporters. He also claimed that social media had silenced him and censored his posts. Last week, Trump’s team urged Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, and Clegg to meet to discuss reinstating Trump’s account. 

According to the contents of the letter, the attorneys for Trump said the continued ban of the social media account is a deliberate effort by Meta to silence the political voice of the former US President. Trump, reacting to the communiqué from Meta on Wednesday, said such a thing will never happen to anybody or the sitting president, who doesn’t deserve retribution. Trump’s account will be suspended for two years while the company investigates whether he poses a risk to public safety.Truth Social, the social media platform, has been used by Trump for the past two years. At the same time, Twitter also banned Trump’s account.

Musk restores Trump’s Twitter account

Elon Musk conducted a poll after taking over Twitter in 2022 to gauge public opinion on whether Trump should be allowed to return to the microblogging platform. Musk restored Trump’s account in November 2022 after receiving favorable results from the poll.

Trump used to post several messages daily on the microblogging platform before his account was banned. However, he did not indicate whether he would return to Twitter after restoring his account in November 2022.In a blog post, the president (Global Affairs) at Meta said Trump is facing several penalties for his repeated offenses. After the restoration of his account, Trump said he may or may not use it. 

Trump will begin his public event

After announcing his bid for president in 2024, Trump will kick off his visit to two of the previous three states on Saturday. According to top BNN News, top Republicans are expected to give Trump a cold reception at this rally. Before proceeding to South Carolina, Trump will stop in New Hampshire in the morning. He will give a lecture at the AGM of the New Hampshire GOP. Trump will receive a warm welcome from Henry McMaster, South Carolina’s governor, in the evening. Sen. Lindsey Graham and other Republicans will join Trump on stage.
