Not only does it allow you to travel through three different states, but it also gives you a glimpse of some of the best heritage sites in the country, including Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Amber Fort, and the enigmatic Taj Mahal, for begin. Golden Triangle itinerary for 5 days
As mentioned, I focused only on places that speak volumes about our country’s history and heritage, so I came up with an itinerary accordingly. Here is a detailed account, day by day, of my trip.
DAY 1 Of The 5 Day Golden Triangle Tour
My starting point was the capital Delhi. After checking into one of Delhi’s budget hotels, I ventured out to explore the cultural heritage of the city. My itinerary for Day 1 included the following attractions:
Qutb Minar
Qutub Minar has always fascinated me ever since I first read about it in my school textbooks. This 73-meter-tall five-story tower is the tallest brick minaret in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Imposing a monument of Indo-Islamic style, it dates from the 11th century.
Humayun’s Tomb
An architectural splendor and another UNESCO World Heritage Site in the capital, the tomb holds the mortal remains of India’s second Mughal Emperor, Humayun. The garden tomb, also called Maqbara e Humayun, was the first of its kind to be built in India. This grand building, inspired by the Persian architectural style, will leave everyone in awe.
Lotus Temple
completely same as to its name, the Lotus Temple is designed in the shape of a lotus flower. It is a Baha’i place of worship that welcomes people of all faiths. Set in a verdant landscape, the white marble temple offered a breathtaking sight! Built-in 1986 at a staggering cost of US$10 million, the Lotus Temple has earned a reputation as one of the most visited attractions in the country.
India Gate
My last stop of the day was India Gate. It is a war memorial that commemorates 70,000 soldiers of the British Indian Army, who perished during the First World War. Under the 42 meter high arch stands another memorial, Amar Jawan Jyoti, built in memory of the soldiers who lost their lives in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. The eternal flame burns here day and night.
DAY 2 Of The 5-Day Golden Triangle Tour
Red Fort
The next attraction on your list is the iconic Fort (aka Lal Qila) located about one kilometer from Jama Masjid. This historic fort was the royal residence of the Mughal emperors of India for around 200 years. Spread over an area of 254 acres, the majestic 17th-century fort is home to several beautiful structures like Mumtaz Mahal, Rang Mahal, Hira Mahal, Khas Mahal, and Moti Masjid among others.
Chandni Chowk Market
Finally, I started exploring the market district of Chandni Chowk – the oldest, busiest, and busiest part of Old Delhi. Shopping in this busy wholesale market can be an experience in itself. I was delighted to absorb the sights, sounds, and colors that filled the place and allowed me to get a sense of Old Delhi in the truest sense.
The DAY 3 Of 5-Day Golden Triangle Tour
On the 3rd morning, excited beyond words as you left the hotel room. There you will, about to realize a long cherished dream of seeing the marvelous Taj in all its glory! Your tour plan for the day will something like this:
Taj Mahal
A priceless jewel of Indian architectural heritage, the Taj Mahal left me amazed. The white marble monument of ethereal beauty was built by Shah Jahan in memory of his dear wife, Mumtaz Mahal, a Persian princess. But, more than anything else, it’s an ode to eternal love!
Agra Fort
This massive fort, built in the 16th century by Emperor Akbar, served as the main residence of Mughal emperors until 1638. Built along the banks of the Yamuna River, it is one of the finest Mughal forts in the country and includes impressive structures like the Diwan-i-Khas, Diwan-i-Aam, Moti Masjid, Shish Mahal, Musamman Burj, etc.
Fatehpur Sikri
When I entered Fatehpur Sikri, another UNESCO World Heritage Site in the country, I felt like I was transported to a whole different era. Impeccably designed buildings like Buland Darwaza, Jama Masjid (yes, here’s another one), Sufi Saint Salim Chishti’s Tomb, Panch Mahal, Birbal’s House, Diwan-I Aam, and Diwan-i-Khas were a treat to explore.
DAY 4 of the 5-day Golden Triangle Tour
After a relaxing night in one of Jaipur’s lovely hotels, I was eager and ready to soak up the beauty of the Pink City. My itinerary for day 4 was an interesting mix. Here is a brief overview of my sightseeing itinerary in Jaipur.
City Palace
City Palace is a magnificent monument that reflects the fusion of Rajput and Mughal architectural styles. Impressive structures inside the palace, like Mubarak Mahal, Chandra Mahal, Maharani Palace, Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas, Govind Dev Ji Temple, etc. all mirror the beauty and splendor of this fortress.
Hawa Mahal
As a result, the red and pink colors of the sandstone formation of Hawa Mahal is a unique structures. The cooling effect inside the chambers due to the breeze penetrating through its many small windows gives the monument its name. This five-story pyramid-shaped building resembles a honeycomb beehive. As a result, it was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh and dates back to in 1799. One of the most visited structures in Jaipur, the Hawa Mahal offers beautiful views of the City Palace and the Jantar Mantar from the top.
A typical Rajasthani dinner at a local restaurant marked the end of my day and I retired to my hotel room to lay down for the day.
DAY 5 Of The 5-Day Golden Triangle Tour
It was the last day of Golden Triangle tour and you have to fly back to Delhi to complete the triangle as they call it. But you can’t be ready to leave Jaipur without exploring one of its most distinctive landmarks, the Hawa Mahal. Amber Fort
The majestic Amber Fort stands atop a hill and remains a testament to Rajput grandeur and opulence. The fort comprises an impressive palace complex and there are six main sections of the palace, each having its own courtyard and entrance gate. Inside the fort, several vendors sell puppets and other typical Rajasthani artifacts.
Nahargarh Fort
Nahargarh Fort is one of the majestic structures in Jaipur towering over the city. It was a strategically located fortress, built to protect the city against invaders and served as a hunting lodge for the ancient rulers. If you want to have a breathtaking view of the city, this is the place to be!
